Breezy glamour shots

Breezy is now six and has matured into a stunning mare. She’s such a ham and loves showing off. My mom is going to a large show this summer and wants me to take Breezy. I’m not sure I’ll be able to so I wanted to do a photoshoot so mom would have some pictures.

I have a Pentax K-1 Mark ii (full-frame sensor) and a Pentax K-3 (ASP-C crop sensor). I used a 28-105 on the K-1 for close-ups and a 60-250 on the K-3 for the action shots. I’ve helped with several professional photoshoots before, so I knew how much work it could be. Some of my friends at the barn stayed around to help.

Breezy got a bath and we went into the big ring for the shoot. First, we did some basic headshots. Poor girl looked like she was going to fall asleep.

Breezy and I had done free lunging in the big ring a few times, so she understood when I asked her to walk. I snorted at her and started trotting. She was like oh really? And tail went off, she snorted, and took off. She had so much fun playing with me.

In about 15 minutes of Breezy snorting and showing off, I got about 60 or so pictures. The other photoshoots I’ve been on took hours.

My stepfather woke me up this morning and said that my Mom’s favourite mare, Farah, had died during the night. Farah was a sweetheart of a mare: multichampion Arabian in halter and performance, dam of five or so babies, and an unchallenged lead mare. She was one of those grand matron mares who knows she…
