Apartment Search Completed

Some good news at last. I looked at two different apartment complexes, both about 5-7 miles from the office. The first place had a reasonable townhouse (1200 sq. ft.) for about $70 more per month than I was comfortable paying. However, it was available immediately and they allowed more than three pets. I put down a deposit but told them to hold my check until the next day. I frantically searched through information...

Apartment complex said no

My sister and I looked at a nice apartment community yesterday. I really liked it. Slightly more than I could reasonably afford, but it was biking distance to work. (Talk about cutting the gas bill!) The only down side to the apartment was their pet policy: only two cats allowed. I have three. The property manager called me back today: they could not make an exception to that rule. Oh well. Back to...

House showing today!

The house is being shown today. Here’s hoping that the people really like it. I need to sell it soon. It’s getting old having it on the market… But the maret isn’t exactly spectacular either. Related Images:

Looking at Rental Places

I looked at houses on Sunday with my friend in Hillsborough and my younger sister. We drove around Hillsborough and Carrboro (a little too far away from work to be feasible). One house sounded good: old Mill house built in the early 1900s with one bedroom/one bath for $600/month. No problem with pets. Sounded great. Things always sound better in ads than they do in person. The house turned out to be less...

Update on housing situation

As much as I love my parents, there is only so long I can stay there without being in the way. One extra person might not be so bad — but there are three of us staying in the house right now. We’ve taken over almost every spare room. Some times things just coincide like this. It definitely makes it harder on the household — especially when one of us comes with three...

House update

The house has had quite a few showings, but no offers. Here is a summary of the showings: 03/22/2008 12:00 PM 03/22/2008 11:30 AM 03/11/2008 3:30 PM 03/10/2008 6:00 PM 02/28/2008 3:30 PM 02/24/2008 3:00 PM 02/09/2008 11:30 AM 02/07/2008 3:00 PM 02/05/2008 6:00 PM 02/04/2008 11:15 AM 12/05/2007 6:00 PM 11/30/2007 2:30 PM 11/28/2007 6:00 PM 11/22/2007 4:49 AM 11/20/2007 4:30 PM You would really think that after all of those showings...

Trip to Tennessee

This weekend was my first trip back to Tennessee since I moved to North Carolina at the beginning of the year. (Yup, I’m behind on my blogging for a really good reason.) My youngest sister went with me this weekend. The goal was to get a lot of stuff done, and we did for the most part. Stephanie, who is a nationally certified massage and bodyworks therapist, also wanted to talk to my...

Roofers are coming! The Roofers are coming!

Whoever coined the phrase “happy homeowner” should be shot. I like my house, but you know I’ve had to repair almost every major system in the house since I bought it. It gets old after a while. Money pit, but at least it’s an investment (small comfort when you look at the checking account balance). The latest repair, after last month’s lovely new sewer line and flooring in about 500 sq. ft., is...

Birds in the house vents

This has definitely been an interesting week. Roller-coaster ride, frustrations, and more. Yeehaw. First, my mare was lame on Sunday (bad). On Tuesday, my diabetic kitty was more active and alert (good). Wednesday I cleaned the house, had everything looking nice, and then discovered two bird families had made nests in the house (bad). Last year, one nest of birds spread these nasty bird mites through the house. (shudder) They don’t transmit disease,...
