    Playlist for writing

    ByKim (Ceffyl) December 6, 2016December 6, 2016

I have a playlist that I use when I’m writing horse-related stories. There are two I’m working on currently, one short story and a novel-length, tentatively entitled The Lady in the Tree. The playlist corresponds approximately to events and characters in the novel and shows their progression through the story. Related Images:

    Lameness check, part 3

    ByKim (Ceffyl) December 2, 2016October 31, 2021

Kasane is still lame, even after the chiropractic adjustment. She is moving much better on her hindquarters, but she still is off on her front right (indicated by a head-bob when she trots). During the initial lameness exam, the vet found an issue with the front right as well as the hind end. There was…

    Post-chiropractor lameness check

    ByKim (Ceffyl) November 27, 2016May 15, 2017

The chiropractor said to check Kasane’s lameness on her front right leg a week after her adjustment on November 15th. I have very carefully had Kasane on rest: no riding, no rambunctious mornings. She’s been very good about it. We didn’t have a small paddock to turn her out in right now because of two…

Got some of the wonk out

    ByKim (Ceffyl) November 15, 2016December 6, 2016

The chiropractor adjusted Kasane today. She was seriously out of whack. Her sacroiliac joint (SI joint) was rotated up on one side and down on the opposite side, which caused her to have waddle when she walked or trotted. We’re hoping that the correction in the back was causing the lameness in her front right….

    Finding a wonky lameness

    ByKim (Ceffyl) November 2, 2016December 21, 2016

Today, I had planned to ride Kasane and do a little trot work. We have been just walking up and down hills on the trails to help her recover from the windpuffs (swellings above the fetlock joint). She has had them for a while, but the one on her back right leg was about 20%…

    Windpuffs on Kasane’s fetlocks

    ByKim (Ceffyl) October 27, 2016October 31, 2021

Kasane has windpuffs on her back fetlock joints. According to The Horse article “Windpuffs in Horses“: Windpuffs are soft, fluid-filled swellings toward the back of the fetlock joint, resulting from inflamed deep digital flexor tendon sheaths. Most commonly, these puffy enlargements are symptomless blemishes–old and cold, the result of years of hard work. In some…

    Help Gleann have life-saving surgery

    ByKim (Ceffyl) October 8, 2016

My friend Saigh has been through a rough year with her furr-babies. Her dog Gleann needs to have surgery. It’s scheduled for this month. They are trying to raise the money through Fundrazy. Help them, if you can. If you can’t, please spread the word. Related Images:

CM QuickFire TK on Mac OS Yosemite

    ByKim (Ceffyl) October 8, 2016October 8, 2016

A friend of mine at work gave me my first mechanical keyboard, an older, well-loved Razer with either brown or blue switches. I loved typing on it. Unfortunately, the connector cable has been losing its connection and it would quit working. If you are a touch typist like me, mechanical keyboards offer a different feel…

    Girth trials and tribulations

    ByKim (Ceffyl) August 28, 2016October 31, 2021

Ever since I got back from Horse Camp, I’ve had trouble with the saddle on Kasane. She had most of July off because of the heat and gained weight. Good grass and less work = chunky monkey. The Arc de Triomphe anatomical girth has been rubbing behind her elbows. My dressage saddle, a Prestige Venus…

    Resources for Occultist Pathfinder class

    ByKim (Ceffyl) August 12, 2016

I’ve been playing some Pathfinder Society games at the local gaming store. Two of the gaming groups I’m in used to play Pathfinder but switched to D&D 5th edition. Reverting to Pathfinder feels very strange. It’s not as annoying as D&D 3.5, but it’s close. So. Many. Rules. I normally play a Ranger or Bard,…

    Help Gleann and Grainne

    ByKim (Ceffyl) July 25, 2016

My friend Saigh has had a lot of bad luck this year. She lost one of her dear pets and shortly after two more of her dogs were diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses. Medical tests are expensive, whether they are for people or for pets. It’s heart-wrenching when you don’t have the funds to do the…

    Undead Mimosa tree

    ByKim (Ceffyl) July 22, 2016November 1, 2021

Mimosa trees won’t stay dead. Deck Project 1, Mimosa 0 Last summer, I had my deck rebuilt. The home inspector had flagged the deck as a “needs to be repaired or replaced, seek professional help” type of project. The boards were rotting. Nails poking up and the joists were soft. The tree cutters removed the…

    Preparing for horse camp

    ByKim (Ceffyl) June 7, 2016November 1, 2021

Horse camp! Kasane and I are going to Horsemasters Horse Camp! We went last year and had a ball. She was amazing and we learned a lot. Camp is only three weeks away and I’ve been working on getting myself and Kasane in shape. We’ve upped the number of rides per week. We’ve made huge…

Movement and subtle shifts when riding

    ByKim (Ceffyl) April 5, 2016November 1, 2021

I had a great riding lesson with my instructor on Friday. First the good news. Kasane and I have improved in maintaining trot tempo and in our ability to rate (slow down or maintain) speed. She’s listening really well and we are working well together. She isn’t pulling on me anymore. We were asked to…
