Update on the Grey Wonder Mare

The farrier came out today and trimmed Rajiyyah’s feet. They are finally looking better. Her front feet seem to be just about normal now, and her hind feet are coming along. Her back heels are under-run, a condition where the heels start growing underneath the foot. It can be relatively easily corrected with persistent trimming, and possibly shoeing.

Rajiyyah is on a four week trim cycle. This was her second trim since she has been in Tennessee. Her front feet look almost normal, and her rear feet aren’t far behind. We’re hoping to trim her and possibly put rear shoes on her with a wedge pad next trim in February.

  • Update on Isis’ lumps

A while back, I wrote about Isis’ odd lumps behind her front legs. The vet came out in mid-July and biopsied one of the lumps on the right side. Test results finally came back last week: the lumps are granulomas. In other words, the lumps are scar tissue from an allergic reaction or injury. They…

  • Good-looking Mare

Isis seemed like a completely different horse this evening. She was perky and interested in everything. She has been getting into things too. Since she started back on grain, she has apparently been throwing the halters off of the walls. Anything within her reach is not safe. That’s my girl! She just seemed so much…

It’s fly season again and the girls are sporting their fly sheets, fly masks, and new hot pink fly boots. Andromeda has her burgundy-trimmed fly sheet and grey fly mask. • Reclaiming space

My friend and I are supposed to have riding lessons on Saturday. It’s supposed to rain Friday night and part of Saturday morning, so there is a chance things will be too wet to ride. Before my ride, my friend suggested maybe we could haul our horses to my instructor’s barn and use her indoor…

  • Trim time

It had only been eight weeks since the mares had been trimmed. Last week their feet looked okay. Friday their feet in serious need of a trim. The farrier took off almost half an inch from both girls’ feet during the trim. Very impressive. Rajiyyah’s feet had grown so much that the hoof wall had…
