Results of synovial fluid tests for Kasane

My vet called with some good news for Kasane. The synovial fluid test and culture came back today. Preliminary culture results are no growth. Yay! The ultrasound of her joint fluid looked clear with moderate synovial thicking.

This is some of the best news we could have had because it means that there is no bacterial growth and that the joint damage from this whole issue could be minimal.

Apparently, Kasane also liked the water with the molasses in it the best.

She will be home soon, too. Best. News. Ever.

I’ve been out to see her several times. Every time she perks up and yells at me. I always hate leaving her there. It’s been getting chilly so I brought her blanket out as well.

After the riding lesson on Tuesday, I scheduled an extra lesson to fit the dressage saddles I’d located. I want to make sure whichever saddle I choose fits not only me, but also Isis. A new (or used) saddle is a big investment (“cheap” means under $500). Arabians are notoriously hard to fit in saddles…

  • It’s the Miracle Mare!

PROGRESS!! Finally! The biggest news: her small intestines have motility! WOOHOO! No signs of the evil “L” word (knock on wood). Some possible signs of very minor infection around the incision sight (not unusual)–she has been started on another round antibiotics just in case. (Can’t say I’d like to get my doses of meds up…

  • Lameness check, part 3

Kasane is still lame, even after the chiropractic adjustment. She is moving much better on her hindquarters, but she still is off on her front right (indicated by a head-bob when she trots). During the initial lameness exam, the vet found an issue with the front right as well as the hind end. There was…

  • Bay Mare Boogies On!

Okay, have to make this fast because I’m still at work. The vet just called. Isis is doing GREAT! She’s truly the Miracle Mare(tm)! She is grazing at regular intervals and can’t get enough of it. Apparently she is knickering at every person who walks by, “Please take me out.” She will get some wet…

Kasane and I have our first dressage show in two weeks at a local venue. We’ve ridden dressage tests before at schooling shows sponsored by our local awesome horse club. This is a schooling show that will not be a test where you know everyone. This is a Show Experience. I used to show a…
