Good article on colic

I found a good article on colic. It is some hard reading, especially when you get to the mortality rate for horses who had similar cases to Isis (50-75% mortality in the worst cases). The article covers pre-op to post-op care. The good news was that 90% of the horses who survived the surger and fully recovered were able to return to the original occupations/use.

I should have known better. Isis is lame again today. Again, seems impossible to tell exactly which leg or area is causing the lameness. No swelling. No heat in her legs or feet. Maybe just ouchiness? It’s been almost a week since the trail ride. I did find something interesting: she did not want to…

The vet called me this morning from the vet school with an update on Kasane. She is doing well and has been getting the radioactive substance via IV. Everyone loves her because she is so well-behaved and sweet. Proud of my girl. I went to the vet school to see her during lunch. I missed…

  • Less gimpy Kasane

So it is two days out, and she is looking so much better. I feel incredibly relieved. She’s walking and even trotting out in her field. She’s gimpy but feeling so much better than she was Tuesday night. Still gimpy, dragging the front right a little, but major improvement from where she was. Related Images:
