EPM diagnosis confirmed

The vet came out on Friday. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to be there because I had a physical scheduled at the time. (Ever look at the wait time for a physical? Six months. Sheesh.) Any way, my vet called me today at work with information on Isis. She said Isis does look like an EPM relapse case because of the uneven muscle atrophy (worse on one side than the other) and Isis is having some trouble moving to the right (especially turning).

Blood will be sent off on Monday for a test. Looks like we’ll be trying the study meds, Oroquin-10. I’ll write up the information on the study in another post.

  • First day on meds

Isis’ medicine arrived today via shipment. (I love it how a “morning” shipment arrives at 11:30 AM.) The medicine is an apple-flavored powder that can be fed in Isis’ grain: one scoop, once per day for 10 days. That’s it. She ate her first dose in some beet pulp and licked the bucket clean. Seems…

  • Update on Isis’ lumps

A while back, I wrote about Isis’ odd lumps behind her front legs. The vet came out in mid-July and biopsied one of the lumps on the right side. Test results finally came back last week: the lumps are granulomas. In other words, the lumps are scar tissue from an allergic reaction or injury. They…

  • Monday update

I just spoke with the vet. He said Isis is doing about as expected, which is pretty good considering everything her small intestines have been through. She had some issues with electrolyte levels today. That has been corrected and is being monitored. She still doesn’t have any motility in her small intestines and may not…
