The good news post-reinstalls on the gaming laptop? No more driver issues! Weird issues in Windows Security are resolved.
The best part about re-installing Windows and then Steam and downloading a 128+ GB game? None of the Cloud Synced saves for Baldurs Gate 3 will successfully load.
And yes, have spent hours going through posts and solutions, etc. I had eight mods loaded in BG3 (managed with BGMM, script extender, all updated from Nexus mods). Apparently, other people have had similar issues and haven’t been able to load their games either. Even when I managed to get all of the mods loaded and restored the load order, the game either crashed at 75% load or just returned to the “Press any key” screen.
I can start a new game, save, sync to cloud, and load the game. Nothing wrong with the game itself.
Here are some pf the articles I used:

So. It looks like I’ll be restarting that game after I had just gotten to Act 3 to the Lower City proper and 55 hours of game play.
