Update on the Bushman

I took today off to take Ambush in to the vet’s. Excellent news! The vet was doing the happy dance. =) His glucose level remains within reasonable levels (189) even after one week of being off of insulin.

She said to bring him back in for a checkup every two weeks. If he stays at reasonable levels and doesn’t have any other changes (i.e., drinking too much water, weight loss), he can stay off of insulin.

She did caution me that some times cats will revert and will suddenly require insulin again. So far, though, he’s been awesome!

It is certainly possible that Basette’s responsiveness last night was from a cleared up infection that didn’t show up on the UTI tests. I hope so! Basette’s glucose was above 500 again this morning, so she’s going to try her on the bovine insulin (PZI) again. Another update! Vet just called and said that Basette…

I waited anxiously at work all day after dropping Basette off at the vet’s this morning. Her eyes hadn’t improved any from the night before. She still seemed to be able to see where I was. I spent most of Friday evening and Saturday morning researching cat food. I have two cats who have two different (almost contradictory needs). Stella, with her kidney issues, needs lower protein (25-30%) and medium amounts of carbohydrates. A diabetic cat like Ambush needs high protein and low carbohydrates (ideally below 20%). California Naturals, the kitty…

  • I can has wet food?

Stella, bless her heart, is not eating most of the food I leave out for her. She prefers dry food over wet food. With her kidney issues, wet food is much better for her. So far, I’ve tried cans and flavors from four or five differnet brands. Stella ate the Wellness wet food pertty well…

  • Snow!

Of course right when I need to get Kiesha to the vet we have the first snow of the year and everything is closed down. Sigh. I’m just glad that my office lets me work from home when necessary. Not a lot of snow here. Just enough to make the roads slippery and hard to…
