Kitty Welfare in Scotland

The Register today has an article called “Scottish government drafts cat welfare code,” which details a Scottish government document describing basic cat care and cat welfare. From the article:

The Scottish government has tackled the thorny issue of cat welfare by issuing a Draft Cat Welfare Code of Practice aimed at providing “basic information and guidance to those responsible for cats on how to care for them”.

This exhaustive document contains essential info for those Scots who aren’t feline-savvy, such as the revelations that “different cats will have different needs”, inquisitive moggies may end up in tumble dryers and that nine lives won’t save your pet from if it falls from your sixth-floor balcony.

The actual document is on the Scottish government Web site: Consultation on the Draft Cat Welfare Code of Practice: A Consultation Document issued by the Rural Directorate of the Scottish Government

Wouldn’t it be interesting if we had the same care programs here for our own animals?

It is certainly possible that Basette’s responsiveness last night was from a cleared up infection that didn’t show up on the UTI tests. I hope so! Basette’s glucose was above 500 again this morning, so she’s going to try her on the bovine insulin (PZI) again. Another update! Vet just called and said that Basette…

  • Visit with Basette

I visited with Basette for 1.5 hours today. When I first got there, she purred, stood up in her cage, and walked over to me. Purring so loudly. So happy to see me. She seemed better at first. She cuddled under my chin, purred contentedly. After about 20 minutes, she became uncomfortable and squirmed to…
