Ambush on the Upbeat

AmbushThis past weekend I drove to NC to visit my sister for her birthday. Whenever I travel, I have to put Ambush, the White Wonder Cat(tm), into the kennel so he can receive his insulin shots. After my last trip to Mom’s in late January, the vet said that Ambush was doing well. His glucose tests were within the lower normal range. We reduced his dose from 4 to 3 units twice per day.

This last weekend was even better news. His glucose was 109 — low end of normal range. The vet suggested that we try taking him off of insulin entirely for a while and monitor him closely. This is excellent news! Maybe the White Wonder Cat is in diabetic remission (or whatever you call it).

Go Bushman, go!

    Gun shot

It is about 2:00 AM. I just heard the first gun shot in my otherwise quiet neighborhood. This is very surreal. The last time I lived in an area where there were gun shots, they were from hunters tracking dear or other game. The time before that was when I lived in Durham. I rented…

  • Stella doing better

Stella finally seems to be doing better. After two courses of trying to give her Clavamox antibiotic twice per day (and her successfully avoiding it 25% of the time), the vet gave her an injectible antibiotic that lasts for two weeks. The dose is determined by the cat’s weight, so it has the potential to…

    Chronicles

I’ve always been a writer, and it’s always made sense to me to deal with issues by writing. I was reading through old posts on here and discovered just how much I’ve captured of Isis’ saga on this blog. Same with Basette and Ambush, my old kitties. A friend here at work suggested pulling Isis’…

  • Doin’ the Basette boogie

It is certainly possible that Basette’s responsiveness last night was from a cleared up infection that didn’t show up on the UTI tests. I hope so! Basette’s glucose was above 500 again this morning, so she’s going to try her on the bovine insulin (PZI) again. Another update! Vet just called and said that Basette…

  • Update on kitties

BrieBrie and Phaedra have settled in and are doing incredibly well. BrieBrie has got her full Maine Coon on and has blossomed into a furrball. Phaedra is a cuddle cat: she has started sitting on my lap and purring. The little scaredy-cat has turned out to be pretty brave. My parents were down for Thanksgiving…
