Breezy needs surgery

I heard back from my vet about the bone chip in Breezy’s front left fetlock. The bone chip looks like a little tiny ball in her joint, but if left untreated, it could lead to joint damage, arthritis, and other bad things.

My vet referred Breezy to the NCSU large animal hospital for surgery to remove the bone chip from her front left fetlock.

Breezy is supposed to go to the hospital on Monday, July 5th. I’m trying not to think about it too much. As the day gets closer, I’ll have to face the tangled emotions I feel looking at the horse trailer and thinking about hauling to the vet hospital.

The last time I took a horse to the hospital was the day Kasane died and it was horrific.

Supplies for bandaging

Post-surgery, Breezy’s fetlock and leg will need to be wrapped. No idea the exact kind of wrap she’ll need. I’m sure it will be a variation on a standing wrap. Here’s what I was told to get for her wrap:

I’m not sure if she’ll have both front legs wrapped (one for support and the other to protect the surgery site). I’m ordering the bandaging supplies and also some new standing wraps and no-bow cushion wraps (padding used underneath the non-stretchy wraps). With my luck, i’ll end up with way too much.
