Three years since Breezy’s first rides

Three years ago, Breezy had her first baby rides. One of her first rides was actually a saddle test session. The saddle fitter noted that Kasane’s saddle wouldn’t fit Breezy and recommended Passier Compact. The local saddle shop had one in the right width, so I went and picked it up on trial. It fit Breezy great. My first ride on her was actually in the Passier. It was very comfortable. Too bad she outgrew it in a few months.

We spent months just getting her to move forward. I’d get on, and she wouldn’t move forward. She was like, “Hi Mom. I’m good. This is nice.” We would move in circles sometimes. I’d ask her to stretch around to get a treat. She was a very bendy mare.

We finally went into the big ring and put treats on barrels. And THEN she moved to every barrel and really walked out. She’s knock a barrel over if there wasn’t a treat on it. She’s come a long way.

The last time I really rode consistently was Isis’ show back in July. I rode Rajiyyah today and really felt slippery in the saddle (didn’t help I was wearing linen pants). Boy do I need to get my legs back in shape! Any way… She was good today. Full of energy and excitement, but overall…

Kasane had her saddle fitting yesterday and there were some pretty big surprises. First off, instead of being butt high, she’s leveled out. When the saddle fitter saw her, he said “Oh my!” at how much she has changed since the last time he saw her. At the saddle fitting last summer, her right side…

  • Patterns

Patterns can be comforting routines. You fall into them like a comfortable bed, with a few sharp pokey bits that you know to avoid. Lately, I go to the barn, love on a mare, take her for a walk to help rebuild strength, give her a hug, and turn her back out to her paddock. Which…

  • Wonder Mares

I didn’t actually end up riding. Walking around on the uneven ground made tweaked my knee, so I I cleaned my saddle and bridle. I brought the girls in and watched them eat grass in the little paddock near the barn. Rajiyyah has gained weight. Not too much, but enough that she is starting to…

  • Tuesday update

I just talked to the vet. He said that the toxins in Isis’ system are gone (yay!). Unfortunately, her small intestines still aren’t showing any motility. It may take several days for motility to return. It’s not unusual for intestines that were as badly damaged as hers to take a few days to recover. The…
