Riding Finally!

Yesterday I went out to the barn after a yoga class and before evening dance practise. It was really nice to see the girls. I’ve missed being around them while all of the house stuff was going on. There is nothing quite as nice as having your horses nicker for you when you walk into the barn.

It was very hot out at the barn — mid-90s and high humidity. I only worked Isis for a few minutes: freelunging and then a little bareback riding. We went over a small jump bareback and she crow-hopped a little. We went over the jump again and she did it perfectly.

I just spoke with the vet. He said Isis is doing about as expected, which is pretty good considering everything her small intestines have been through. She had some issues with electrolyte levels today. That has been corrected and is being monitored. She still doesn’t have any motility in her small intestines and may not…

IR impacts everything else in one giant cascade: IR horses’ immune systems aren’t quite at 100%, heat affects them harder than other…

  • Isis being prepped

What kind of sick person takes a picture of her horse pre-operation? Maybe someone who hopes that this won’t be the last picture I take of her. Maybe because I’m hoping against everything that she pulls through and is one of the miracle mares you read about. Call it preventive measures? I’ll try to post…

She has defiitely improved. Farrier said that Isis’ feet look perfect. Yay! First time her feet have looked that good. Rajiyyah’s feet also looked…

  • Equine insurance

Equine insurance is almost as much fun as people insurance. Almost, but not quite. Don’t get me wrong: I’m very glad I have insurance on Kasane. When Isis needed colic surgery, the only way I was able to afford it was because of the insurance. Here’s the catch: Once you make a claim for an…
