Taking the Acer Aspire One D150 to OS X 10.6.8

I’ve had to reinstall OS 10.6.3 several times because after every time I’ve done the update to 10.6.5, restored the kexts as instructed, I’ve ended up with the dreaded white screen error where I can’t do anything on the system. This indicates a kext problem with the graphics. I’ve tried removing and replacing the kexts, with no luck. I’m going to skip 10.6.5 and try going directly to 10.6.8.

Reinstalling 10.6.3 has been straightforward using the procedures outlined in my other post. The tricky part is going to be getting the D250 to 10.6.8. (I’ve seen mixed reviews of trying to go to Lion. It doesn’t seem feasible because the 10.7 and 10.8 require 64-bit capable processors, and the Atom in the D150 is only 32-bit.

Here are the links I’m using for this process:

Prasys’s instructions call for nawcom’s Legacy Kernel and SleepEnabler kext. Unfortunately the links to these files don’t work. The files seem to be available on OSx86.net in their files section. Here are other links I’m using for these files. I don’t know yet which ones are the correct version.

I’m going to try Prasys’s instructions first. If that doesn’t work, then I’ll reinstall to 10.6.3 and use the tutorials outlined on Computer Software Is Your Friend.
