Isis Update

The results from the biopsy came back and showed that Isis’ problems were caused by an allergic reaction. What she reacted to, we don’t know yet. I’d be willing to guess that it was something tied in with the rain rot she had (which is now gone).

My cell phone has a 423 area code (long, convoluted story) and I sometimes get random calls from people with really thick accents. That’s okay. It happens. I politely told the person that she had the wrong number. This morning I…

  1. I recently lost my QH to an autoimmune disease called pemphigus foliaceous where the body has become allergic to a protien that binds the upper layers of skin together called desmoglen. Vet with 30 years experience had never seen this disease. The symptoms are very much like other skin diseases(and it is rare)like rain rot ,ringworm and etc. If you have any questions my e-mail is blmoon585@aol.com

  2. Jem,

I am very sorry to hear about your QH. I’ve never heard of pemphigus foliaceous, however, after reading a few sites on it (Google is your friend), the symptoms do sound similar. I’ll email my vet about it and see what she says.

How did you find out your horse had it?
