Update on the Grey Wonder Mare

The farrier came out today and trimmed Rajiyyah’s feet. They are finally looking better. Her front feet seem to be just about normal now, and her hind feet are coming along. Her back heels are under-run, a condition where the heels start growing underneath the foot. It can be relatively easily corrected with persistent trimming, and possibly shoeing.

Rajiyyah is on a four week trim cycle. This was her second trim since she has been in Tennessee. Her front feet look almost normal, and her rear feet aren’t far behind. We’re hoping to trim her and possibly put rear shoes on her with a wedge pad next trim in February.

The Bay Wonder Mare has been losing weight. Not just a little, but quite a bit. The barn owners were concerned and so was I. Isis hadn’t seemed like her normal self. • Trim time

It had only been eight weeks since the mares had been trimmed. Last week their feet looked okay. Friday their feet in serious need of a trim. High temperatures plus high humidity means that the horses (and their humans) are feeling the heat as if Atlas’ burden was sudden dropped on their shoulders. Two out…

  • Update on Isis

The vet came out today. She looked at Isis’ belly and took samples to send off to the lab. We opted to do a biopsy of the area. The biopsy should tell us if it is an infestation of some sort, allergies, rain rot, or something else. Isis was really good for everything. She was…

  • Song for Isis

My friend Kat suggested a song for Isis: Hole’s Heaven Tonight. Some of the lyrics seemed very appropriate.   Here comes a sign in the form of a girl She’s the finest, sweetest thing in the world Oh, take you to Heaven tonight I feel the horses coming galloping In the summer’s end Take you…

  • Hair loss?

Ever seen a horse lose the hair on their stomach in patches during the winter? Isis is doing that. Her hair is very scurfy (but no rain-rot lumps) and as you rub it it falls out in patches… I’ve called the vet. Related Images:
