Stella looking better

Stella is eating more and asking for food. She has been playing and seems to have recovered from whatever it was that had her down. She’s made a tremendous recovery. Whenever I picked up her from the vet’s after the trip to Chincoteague, she was animated and happy once she got home. Fiesty, even. Swatted at my hand demanding pettings pettings pettings now now now. Such a relief to have Her cuteness back...

Post vet visit with Stella

Boy, what a day. Stella is feeling so much better tonight. She’s been playing on my desk and keeping me company. She also ate some wet food and dry food after we got home. I don’t know what it was about last night and this morning, but she is feeling worlds better. She also gained 2.5 ounces! That’s a lot for a little kitty who has been constantly losing and not gaining. Yay! Some...

Stella recovers her spunk

I have been sitting at work all day worrying about Stella. She seemed so small this morning and last night, like she didn’t feel good and didn’t want to be here any more. I called the vet and made an appointment for fluids because that usually helps her. I also had The Conversation with the vet about knowing when it’s time to let your kitty go. I was very upset but pushed through...

Mild panic, resolved

I got home last night and went to the bedroom to check on Stella. She was curled up where my pillow is. I lifted the end of her tail and let it fall back to the bed it. She didn’t wake up. Pushed on the mattress next to her and she didn’t wake up. Mild panic ensued. In the dim light, I could barely see her rib cage rising and falling with her...

I really meant to ride…

I had the best plans to do lots of riding this past weekend. Saturday I hung out with my sister (which was lots of fun). Sunday was planned for riding all three mares. Except I threw my back out and had done something to my knee. I did go out to the barn and check on the girls. Kasane finally lost one of her loose teeth. The swellings are all gone and she...

Nicks, bumps, and swollen glands

I went out to the barn to ride Kasane tonight. Got the saddle and tack to the ring and then went to the field to bring her in. She was happy to see me and met me at the gate. Her glands behind her jowls and up to her ears were very swollen. She pranced and trotted on the leadrope. No matter what her glands looked like, she obviously felt good and had...

Did I mention Stella is eating?

Stella is eating food again. None of the wet food I’ve been giving her, but she is eating new dry food. Her flavor of the week is Solid Gold Kats N Flocken cat food. The pet store manager I spoke to swore up and down that she would eat the food or else I could bring the unused part of the bag back for a refund. Okay, so we’ll see what happens. I...

Rides, saddles, reins

Tack shop sale was dangerous. Picked up some gorgeous, comfy Stubben reins. They are rubber reins but the rubber is soft like silk and no thicker than the half-inch reins. The ends of the reins have clips on them: perfect for training rides (but not something you’d want to show in). These reins had been marked down but were still pricey. Apparently, when I brought the reins to the check out counter, the...

oOoo a sale!

Triangle Horse Sports is having a sale this weekend. Not just any sale, but a Stubben bridle for $50 type of sale. (These bridles normally run $200-$500.) None of the bridles were the right size for my mares. I found one, but after careful thinking (and much “but it’s a Stubben!” reasoning), I ended up only buying things for other people at the barn. The bridle I almost got for my girls (and...

Good news from the farrier

Farrier came out today. The weather has been so dry all of the bits of foot crud (thrush) that the mares had were gone. Their feet looked great. Isis and Prize were very well mannered with the farrier. Isis rubbed his head with her lip, which the farrier thought was sweet. It’s okay when she does that until you hear the distinct sound of her mouth opening. She won’t bite but some times...

A tool-using mare

I had a great ride on Kasane Monday afternoon. Only about 20 minutes, but it was her first ride in the bit. We rode in the round pen instead of the big ring. Think of the roundpen as a containment field in case something had happened. Kasane was fantastic. Figured out how to give to the pressure on the bit immediately. As soon as I picked up very light contact with the reins,...

Only one file disappears

Only the header image collage I made of the girls disappears. The current header image has remained for several days. Suffusion theme hates the banner image I created. Not sure if it was the size, the file format or what. Every night the file disappeared. (Gremlins in the server!) The current banner is Isis running. The picture was taken on one of her first times out in a big pasture after her colic...

Disappearing files

I loaded the site today and my banner image had disappeared. No idea why. The file can’t be found on the server. It’s very strange. I haven’t logged in or edited the site in a few days. Not sure what happened. I’ve replaced the collage with a backup header image. This is very strange. I wonder what might have caused this… If the current file disappears, then I’ll put in a trouble ticket...
