Payment options, please

Anyone who has dealt with hospitals knows the daunting mixture of needing medical care and the dread of finding out how much it will cost. I found that out today after her surgery was over. (Eep!) Just like with people, before she was taken to the veterinary hospital, I had to notify her insurance agent of Isis’ condition, where we were going, vet’s name and number, and related information. After Isis was in...

Isis being prepped

What kind of sick person takes a picture of her horse pre-operation? Maybe someone who hopes that this won’t be the last picture I take of her. Maybe because I’m hoping against everything that she pulls through and is one of the miracle mares you read about. Call it preventive measures? I’ll try to post daily pictures of her so her progress can be tracked. Related Images:

Bay Wonder Mare in the hospital

Five second summary: Isis had colic surgery today (VERY BAD). I had written a long post about Isis being in the hospital with colic and a slippery-finger mistake caused me to delete the entire entry. It’s too raw to rewrite now. She was okay at breakfast this moring. The barn manager called me at 9:30 AM, the vet was at the barn about an hour later, and Isis was at the hospital being...

Next day, new pain

So my neck is much better today. I can at least drive and feel like I can look over my right shoulder so I can merge into traffic. These are all good things. Unfortunately, now my back hurts from the muscle strain from yesterday. (Or something.) I did go to the doctor. She said the neck pain was probably caused by stress or other factors that had built up over time and just...

Pain in the neck

Shortly before I left work, my neck started hurting and my back felt stiff. I woke up at approximately 2:00 with a very stiff neck. I could not turn my head to the right without catching my breath. It felt rather like someone was poking a three inch, 18 gauge needle into my vertebrae on the right side of my neck. Not fun. I called my Mom because I knew she would be...

Research week

I’m taking some time off this week to work on research and have some much-needed down time. Hopefully, I’ll be able to coordinate with my coauthor who is also on travel this week. However, I won’t be online much because of it. Related Images:

Lots of updates…

Okay, so I have lots of updates to post for the past two months. I don’t have a lot of time right now, but here are some highlights: Horseback riding lessons! I’m back in lessons and acutally jumping now. Isis’ first horse show! She was AWESOME! Riding Rajiyyah! The grey wonder mare is under saddle and doing well. House projects coming along. What was that again about the joy of home ownership? Diabetic...

Moving

I have never purchased a house on my own before. This has been an adventure that has consumed the majority of my time for the past two months. I’ve been trying to get my work done, freelancing projects finished, and everything else that goes along with it… and now the various electricians I’ve asked for estimates are not sending the requested information. I close on the house on Wednesday or Thursday. I have...

Neat person

I went to a network meeting this past Tuesday and met a really neat lady. She is in town for some training at the local national park. After a few months, she will return to Alaska. We have a lot in common–interests in history, MUDding, and meeting people online. She is a talented writer and photographer. I’m hoping I can monopolize some of her time before she goes back to Alaska. Related Images:

Riding again!

Isis is back in training and so is Rajiyyah. After a hiatus of several months for both of them, their various feet and or muscle problems have cleared up. Rajiyyah is in training at Forest Hills Farm. I’m working with Isis. It feels good to be back riding. It’s been almost a year since the riding accident, and in that time I’ve lost a lot of muscle tone. I ordered a new hard...

Microshaft Money, meet the IRS…

Yesterday the IRS sent me a note stating that my 2004 taxes were incorrect and that I owe a pretty chunck of change. Great way to lose some sleep. Today, I brought my 2004 taxes to work, called my CPA, and faxed them the IRS paperwork. My CPA is really good. I know this mistake (whether the IRS’s or something I did not provide my CPA) will be cleared up eventually… Of course...

Dual Boot OS X and Windows

Apple released a program called “Boot Camp” today in beta. The program allows Intel-based Macs to have a dual boot OS X and Win XP system. (see http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/) My next computer is going to be a Mac =) Related Images:

Ambush at Home

Poor kitty spent the weekend at the vet’s. He perked up a little when I came to pick him up. He had been huddling in the back of his “apartment” at the vet’s. He had a towel to sleep on and plenty of space. He was shaking. The vet helped me give him the evening insulin injection (2 units). He did very well. When we pulled into the driveway, he was keen to...
