BrieBrie came out to play!

It hasn’t taken BrieBrie that long to come out and play. Since she arrived, she’s mostly stayed under my bed and hasn’t come out. I’ve reached under there a few times and have had her purring on my hand and loving on me. Tonight she came out and was playing. She has a soft purr and talks. When she’s happy, she kneads while she is walking. Her paws come up so high she looks...

Roof fixed

Just an update on the roof situation and the water in the crawl space. The HOA did indeed send a very nice man from Ark Roofing over to look at the roof. It was fixed today (before we get more rain tomorrow). That was a relief. I’ve also been pulling water out of the crawl space using a bucket. Sigh. Over 7 buckets of water, so maybe 6.5 gallons. I hadn’t though to...

Roof leaking

It rained a lot on Thursday and all day Friday. Inches of rain and some ice. West of me, like out of the barn, there were trees down and power outages. It poured and poured. Thursday night I could barely sleep because I kept hearing the rain and thinking it was Kiesha purring. The water rushing through the gutters sounded like Kiesha when she was about to hack a hairball. That noise instantly...

Fell going up the stairs

I did a stupid human trick at work. I had a day of meetings. I was running late for a meeting so I took the stairs to go up the two floors to my next meeting. My foot caught on a stair and I sprawled onto the stairs just before the landing. Caught myself on the ledge, hit my right knee on a stair ledge, and my shin on another stair. I know...

Rainrot season again

Not specifically rain rot, it’s more like the creeping fungus infection that the horses get on their feet when it’s been rainy and muddy. Rajiyyah has it pretty bad on her legs. I picked up her feet to clean then out and the underside of her back leg fetlocks felt crusty. It felt at first like she had a cut back there but it wasn’t a cut. She had nasty scabs that were...

Downstairs bathroom remodel

I’ve been updating the fixtures in the house from brass and fake-looking gold plastic to oil rubbed bronze. I’ve changed out all of the door knobs and removed the towel rods from the walls, especially in the downstairs bathroom. I also replaced the light fixture to match the ones in the upstairs bathroom. I added a hand towel holder in the downstairs bathroom and patched the walls where the 30 inch towel rod...

Happy New Year!

Here’s hoping that this year is an improvement for everyone! Quite a few of my friends had rough segments this year. Learning opportunities abounded and it wasn’t always pretty. Here’s hoping that 2014 turns out brighter. Related Images:

Cleared to ride

I’ve been healing very well from the accident. The physical therapist and my regular doctor have been positive and upbeat about how quickly I’ve been recovering. I have been doing regular exercises and trying to not work too much on the computer. The strain from looking down exacerbates the neck sprain. The good news is that I’ve been cleared to start riding again. Simple stuff, like walking on a trail, but it’s a...

Car search completed

I’ve had a rental car since two days after the accident. The insurance company gave me a few options: sedans, SUVs, or one little red Fiat 500. I have looked at Fiats earlier in the year and thought they were cute, so I used this opportunity to rent one as a prolonged test drive. It definitely doesn’t drive the way I expected. The salesman at the Fiat dealership had bragged about how peppy...

Car go crunch

Last week on Wednesday, I was taking the back way home to avoid accidents on the interstate and ended up in an accident myself. A silver SUV turned left from oncoming traffic across my lane on 54. Major intersection. Lots of traffic. One minute my lane was clear, and the next there was a car in front of me. Car go crunch and snicker-snack. The hood was crumpled, like it is designed to...

Where has Ceffyl been?

Ceffyl has been moving! I bought a cute townhouse. Closing was October 9th. Most of my time in October has been spent packing, getting the new place situated, and cleaning out the old apartment. I had to give a 60 day notice for the apartment complex and pay the lease termination fee (two months’ rent!). I turn over the keys to the apartment as soon as I can get to the apartment complex...

Stupid head cold is stupid

I went to the barn with plans for riding. It felt like it had been so long and I just wanted to ride my girls. I had been dreaming about riding them, about the way they move at the canter and how I have to sit at the trot. Breeches and paddock boots are great riding equipment, but can’t overcome a fever. I had felt okay earlier in the day. I felt light...

Follow-up on HRW

A few days ago, I posted about my experiences trying to get information about a condo from the company managing the community’s HOA. This company is HRW, Inc. I called the phone number of the person listed on the “Purchaser’s Research Package” screen and left a message. She called me back the next morning and asked me to email a list of my questions to her. She said she couldn’t answer my questions...

Pulled my right calf muscle

I’ve been doing more running and enjoying a fitness game called “Zombies, run!” It’s been the only thing that has had me out running and walking just to listen to story lines. Lots of fun. Great motivation. I’ve always been a sprinter when I did run. The longest I could run when I was on track was a half mile. On a really really good marathon day I could run one mile. If...

HRW as a Home Owner’s Association management company

I have been looking at houses and condos for a few months. Whenever my Awesome Agent and I look at a condo or townhouse with a home owner’s association (HOA), we ask these questions: What does the HOA cover and what is the owner responsible for? How often are repairs, pest inspections, property maintenance (like painting, for example) done? How often are dues increased? Have any special assessments been made in the recent...
