Doctor Who

If you don’t know who Doctor Who is, you’re in for a sordid history of one of the longest-running TV shows. The first running, the BBC series ran for over 25 years with seven men (plus one spinoff movie with the 8th doctor) sharing the role the Doctor during that time. Check out www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho for more info. About 1.5 years ago, the BBC picked up the series again and filmed a new searson...

Isis Update

The results from the biopsy came back and showed that Isis’ problems were caused by an allergic reaction. What she reacted to, we don’t know yet. I’d be willing to guess that it was something tied in with the rain rot she had (which is now gone). Related Images:

WordPress 2.0

Well it’s a new year and a new look. The blog has been updated to WordPress 2.0 from 1.2. There are quite a few new featurs. I just uploaded several themes, as well as this one, which is based on Squible. I’fe modified the code a little, replaced some images and the header graphic with the new blog logo. I’m hoping to get things moving around here a little more. It would be...

Happy New Year!

Here it is a new year and I’ve been bad about posting for the past few months. Last year saw many opportunities and disappointments. For a while, I was so despressed about the riding accident and then the subsequent recovery for Isis and me. We did finally get her in shape, and it has seemed that every time I was ready to start riding again, we ran into a snag. Here is hoping...

Strange things…

Have you ever joined a Web site like Reunion.com? You can search for, and sometimes find, people you knew in college or high school. Some times this is a good thing, other times it just brings flashbacks to preferably-forgotten memories. When I was in middle school, I met a wonderful person who lived across the street from me. We met on track team in the fall of our eighth grade. We had the...

James Doohan died this morning

James Doohan died this morning at 5:30 AM from pneumonia and Alzheimer’s. Doohan played the beloved Chief Energineer Montgomery “Scotty” Scott of the Star Trek TV series, which aired form 1966-1969, and subsequent 7 movies. When over 50% of engineering students listed Scotty as their inspiration for studying engineering, the Milwaukee School of Engineering awarded Doohan an honorary doctorate of engineering. In addition to being one of the best known starship engineers, Doohan...

Improvement, at long last

Isis moved better today. She stretched out when I brought her into the ring in-hand for some free lunging. Slight limp, but not much. At one piont, she was feeling great — tossed her head, whirled around, snorted, pranced… What a relief! Maybe this brief retreat into lameness has past. Related Images:

Little Sister Graduated!

Man, I feel old. My youngest sister — 15 years younger than me — just graduated from high school. Even though I missed the ceremony, I was able to make it for the family party. So good news (her graudation) and bad news (Basette’s passing). I’m in DC this week, so I won’t be posting much. I’ll be back home on the 18th. Related Images:

Glasses?!

Funny thing happened today: I inherited my Mom’s eyes. My parents had eye sight from opposite ends of the spectrum: Dad was horribly myopic, and Mom was slightly farsighted. My sister inherited Dad’s eyes: she was legally blind (without her glasses) before she entered high school. I was slightly nearsighted in middle school. I got my first glasses–big, pastel plastic owl-eyed lenses–in 1983. My second pair of glasses–brown/gold wire-rimmed L.A. Gear frames —...

Birds in the house vents

This has definitely been an interesting week. Roller-coaster ride, frustrations, and more. Yeehaw. First, my mare was lame on Sunday (bad). On Tuesday, my diabetic kitty was more active and alert (good). Wednesday I cleaned the house, had everything looking nice, and then discovered two bird families had made nests in the house (bad). Last year, one nest of birds spread these nasty bird mites through the house. (shudder) They don’t transmit disease,...
