Where has Ceffyl been?

Gah. It’s been a bad two years, pandemic aside. Here is a summary of what happened. I have wanted to write up blog posts to cover all of these things, but honestly it’s been too much. I’d start to write and just get overwhelmed by everything. It has been very hard. The good The bad The ugly The horrible trifecta of fall 2022: Where has Ceffyl been? Quite honestly, I haven’t had the...

Post-reinstall woes

Cat intently watches a cat from Baldur's Gate 3.

The good news post-reinstalls on the gaming laptop? No more driver issues! Weird issues in Windows Security are resolved. The best part about re-installing Windows and then Steam and downloading a 128+ GB game? None of the Cloud Synced saves for Baldurs Gate 3 will successfully load. And yes, have spent hours going through posts and solutions, etc. I had eight mods loaded in BG3 (managed with BGMM, script extender, all updated from...

Fix one driver error leads to fun times

A large cat watches a game of Diablo 4 on a large monitor.

I periodically forget how much of a pain Windows is. Most of the time, I’m using macOS for work and for my personal laptop. However, my gaming machine runs Windows because most games don’t run on (or don’t run well) on macOS. I also got tired of using Windows emulators like Wine and Crossover. My MSI laptop was having stuttering issues with the nVidia 3070 graphics card. (Yes, did lots of research, tried...

No lameness on front! Lame behind (again). Sigh.

Breezy’s initial lameness evaluation back in the spring was because she had an intermittent lameness on her hind end. The results of the lameness evaluation showed an issue on the front left, which lead to X-rays revealing the bone chip(s) in her fetlock. The vet came back out do a post-surgery lameness evaluation. The good news? The lameness locator showed no lameness on her front left! Yay! The bad news? That hind end...

Worst week ever

This is going to be short, because I just can’t write. Within one week, my sister lost two of her three children. My nephew died on Monday. My niece died on Wednesday. Mom and I flew out to be with my sister on Wednesday. Not going into details, because this is a family tragedy. Thanks to a hurricane, a tree fell on my house on Friday. My neighbors sent me pictures and contacted...

Stall rest and horses

The Amazing Miss B (aka Breezy) earned her nickname while recovering from the surgery to remove the bone chips from her front left fetlock. She has to be confined to a stall for 6-8 weeks. We’re allowed to hand graze her as long as she remains calm. When Isis was on stall rest after colic surgery, she was not a happy camper. She only threatened to jump out of her stall when she...

Miss B is home

Breezy was happy to see us today, but not so happy to get on the trailer (took some convincing that we were going home). Her welcoming party was very relieved to see her and get her discharge papers from the hospital. The vets removed one bone chip. Breezy had three small incisions where the surgery was done. She shouldn’t have this issue again, thankfully. The standing wrap on her front left leg is...

Bone chip surgery day

Grey horse trailer on the interstate

I managed to not be too much of a wreck today, but still nervous. Our appointment for the vet hospital was 10:00 AM, so we got her there in plenty of time. She got on the trailer well and was a good girl about everything. This is only the second time I’ve taken Breezy anywhere. I won’t be allowed to see her until we come to pick her up in two days. I...

Surgery postponed for Breezy

I have been a stressed out wreck anticipating Breezy’s surgery. Just revisiting the vet hospital where Kasane died was enough to make me leery. I’ve been on edge most of the week for several reasons: Breezy’s surgery, the people at the barn having their own non-emergency medical situation to deal with, and just Life happening all at the same time. Breezy was scheduled for 10:00 AM this morning. I woke up early to...

Breezy needs surgery

I heard back from my vet about the bone chip in Breezy’s front left fetlock. The bone chip looks like a little tiny ball in her joint, but if left untreated, it could lead to joint damage, arthritis, and other bad things. My vet referred Breezy to the NCSU large animal hospital for surgery to remove the bone chip from her front left fetlock. Breezy is supposed to go to the hospital on...

Breezy has a bone chip

Breezy has had a strange lameness that has manifested as either back left or front right. It looks like her back strides aren’t the same length. She’s had several weeks off and it hasn’t seemed to help. The vet came out yesterday to do a lameness evaluation for Breezy. The vet used a lameness locator as well. You attach several data senders to the horse’s head (via a bonnet), front right pastern, and...

Dressage saddle research and fitting

There are some issues that have come up with Breezy that might be related to saddle fit. How do you cope with the possibility of having to spend $$$ on a new saddle? You research the brands and options that might fit.  My saddle fitter/bodywork person recommended looking at saddles with short panels with a hoop tree. What does that mean? The panel is the underside cushiony area of the saddle. If you...

Girth or saddle issue? Take your pick.

Breezy may have a saddle or girth issue with her dressage saddle.  Breezy and Andromeda have bodywork done every month and they are also seen by a chiropractor every 3 months. For the past few sessions, my bodywork specialist has noticed some issues on Breezy’s back, withers, and girthing area that might be related to saddle fit. She has mentioned this several times.  After I got back from the UK in October, I...

Screen share from Google Pixel Slate to macOS

I have work apps installed on my Pixel Slate tablet. I was asked to create a guide for our users who have tablets. Getting the screen shared to my Mac was tricky. Here’s my solution. Google offers remote desktop support for machines using Google Chrome browser. With both devices on the same wifi network, go to remotedesktop.google.com/support Select Remote Support and install the Chrome extension on both tablet and desktop or laptop. After...
