iTunes has The Seeker on special for $4.99

In 1973, Susan Cooper’s book, The Dark is Rising, (book two in a series of the same name), delighted readers and also won the Newberry Award. In 2007, Walden Media got their hands on the movie rights and made a horrible version. I wrote my longest blog post about the differences between the movie and the book. Save your $5 and don’t even bother buying the movie or renting it. Unless you want...

Horses in Santa hats!

I had to. I just had to. Okay, maybe I didn’t but it was too cute to pass up. What do you do when you find reindeer antlers and santa hats in the store? You take them out to the barn and put them on horses, of course! Only Kasane was brave enough to wear the evil antlers with bells. She was very good about it. Isis wanted nothing to do with them...

Riding the roller coaster with Stella

In the past two weeks, Stella’s weight has gone up, gone down, gone up, gone down. Today she was back up to 3 pounds 15 ounces. Stella has been getting her anti-phosphorus medicine and potassium supplement every twelve hours. Every morning and evening around 8:00, Stella gets her medicine. She knows what time it is and moves away from away from me when she seems I’m carrying a towel. I pick her up...

Adventure, part 2

Where the intrepid explorer manages to get rides to and from work with friends and eventually discovers what happened to her car. The car was at the shop for three days, mostly because they didn’t have time in the schedule to work on the car. I finally got the car back today. The alternator and a battery cable had to be replaced. The car did pass inspection, though. It was way more than...

Adventure!

Well not so much. More like a scary outting in which my car dies on the Interstate and then miraculously works long enough to get off of an exit (road where I live) and park the car in a pharmacy parking lot. The car has been running a little higher RPM than normal, but the higher RPM comes down once the car warms up. That’s been the only thing that seemed strange today....

Stella update from vet visit

Stella had her second visit to the vet this week for fluids. She lost 2 ounces, back down to 3 pounds 12 ounces (she was 3 pounds 14 ounces). She seems to be feeling a little better. She’s been more playful over the past day or so. The vet gave me two cans of prescription kidney disease diet food for Stella. I’ve been feeding the wet food (or rather leaving some in a...

Love letter video: I hope this gets to you

Reading Gizmodo, I came across an article on a love letter Walter May created for his girlfriend Lex in the form of a music video, “I hope this gets to you.” The video isn’t being sent to his girlfriend directly. Instead, he is hoping she’ll discover it organically through blog posts, tweets, and Facebook. Related Images:

Riding the roller coaster with Stella

Over the past week and a half, Stella’s weight was in a state of slow decline. She lost about 8 ounces, taking her weight from 4 pounds 3 ounces down to 13 pounds 10 ounces. I watched her losing weight and felt like there was nothing I could do. Her appetite was half of what it was a few weeks ago and she has been sleeping a lot. For quite a while, she...

Cleaned madly for Thanksgiving

Before you give thanks on Thanksgiving, you first shop for food and clean. The cleaning part is what always gets me. I’m not messy, but I tend to leave things incompletely unpacked for as long as possible. You get to where things you need are out but the rest of it isn’t put away. The boxes were out of the way, and that’s about it. I started cleaning at some crazy time of...

Writing mentoring sale from Judith Tarr

I regularly read Judith Tarr’s Livejournal blog. This week she announced her annual sale on writing mentoring. Judith Tarr is a fantastic fantasy / historical fiction author who has authored dozens of books. (Take a look at what she has published over on Amazon and at Book View Cafe.) She is one of those authors who groks horses and gets the details right. Do you have a writing project that you could use...

Stella lost weight

Stella is now the smallest she has ever been: 3 pounds, 13.5 ounces. This Friday we’re going to recheck her phosphorous levels and make sure her meds are at the right dose. Poor little kitten. She is in good spirits and she has been playful. She seems okay, she just didn’t want to eat much for the past few days. Sigh. Related Images:

Stella and colder weather

It’s colder weather and Stella is letting me know it. She does not tolerate anything colder than 65 well. She insists upon sleeping under the blankets. First, she sits next to my left ear and waits for me to life the blanket for her. If I don’t move, she puts her mouth about three inches from my ear and meows. She then picks at the blanket with her paw. I’ll usually lift the...

Barrel inspecting instead of barrel racing

Kasane is a curious mare. After an initial snort at a new thing/obstacle, she will walk right up to the the former scary thing and try to eat it, push it over, pull it down, or play with it. I try to encourage her to investigate by letting her explore anything that might be even slightly scary. Before we ride, Kasane is free lunged in the big arena. (Lunging means that I chase...
