Nerd/Geek Test

Heh. I actually scored higher this time than I did when I took the test back in February. (Keep in mind, that I do have social skills and personal grooming skills. 😉 Related Images:

Cell phone is dying

My cell phone is dying a long, slow, painful death of the abused electronics kind. The phone has been to the barn, through dust and cat hair, riding in the rain, and all manner of abuse. It’s lasted almost three years — pretty good for a little touch phone with a battery back that comes off if you look at it wrong. It’s a good little cell phone: Motorola Ming A1200 running Monta...

Been a while.

Wow. So it’s been a while since I last posted. I’ve managed to land (mostly) on my feet. I went from being unemployed to being over-employed, but in a good way. My old freelance contacts paid off in the best possible way: I was given enough work to get me through until I located a (hopefully) contract to hire position at an excellent company. I’m currently working about 50 hours per week, but...

Apologies to people who follow me on Twitter

I played a game on Twitter today called Mobster World. When I signed on to the game, it asked for access to my Twitter account. Other Facebook applications also ask for access to FB pages, so I did not think anything of it. Happily played the game for a while and then went offline for a nap. My phone buzzed with a new text message: a friend on Twitter had un-followed me because...

Update on Stella

She’s been recovering well (yay!) and so far seems to be doing better. I’ve been feeding her on my desk. She seems to eat more when I’m nearby than when I’m not. Our checkup with the regular vet went well. She was pleased that Stella’s test results showed similar numbers to last December’s blood work. The kidney disease hasn’t progressed very much. She played like a kitten today — I have the cuts...

Post emergency clinic

Initally, Stella seemed to be a little better this afternoon. I stayed home with her and she seemed to be walking and trotting around the apartment. Just a little wobbly but not much. I was getting ready to go to the barn to feed (horsesitting), and woke Stella up to move her into the bathroom. She was worse than she had been this morning. Her front legs trembled as if she was too...

Wobbly Stella

Stella is having trouble walking this morning/afternoon. It started just before lunch and lasted almost an hour. I called the vet just before they closed. They said to keep an eye on her and if something happens to take her to the emergency clinic. Otherwise to call them on Tuesday and let them know how she is. She started off being wobbly on her back end and only taking 5-7 steps before laying...

Some good news

I have spent the past several days calling every freelancing contact I have and sending my resume out to every position I’m qualified for. I’m averaging 3+ submissions per day so far and have had some luck. I had a phone interview yesterday that went pretty well. I have a face to face interview scheduled. We will see how that goes. My skillset matches the job description, but it’s for a very large...

Bu-bye Mr Job

I became a statistic yesterday. Supposedly the unemployment numbers had been improving — pushed down to 9.4% instead of 9.5% according to NPR a few mornings ago. There will be a few new unemployment claims this week, since a few of my coworkers and I lost our positions. None of this was a reflection on my performance. It was a financial decision to reduce costs. With two tech writers, one can be let...

Kitty updates

Kiesha had a urinary tract infection. She has been on Clavamox (antibiotic) for a few days and is not doing well on them. She keeps throwing up. Poor kitty. She’s being switched to an injectable antibiotic. Hopefully this time it will help… Ambush and Stella both seem to be doing better. Their UTIs have passed and they are romping around the house as usual. Now that the kitties are all on their way...

Why did Ceffyl disappear again?

Ceffyl has been stressed: Three sick cats: two have recovered from a UTI, third might have one (or she has a behavioral issue). My mare, Isis, was diagnosed with EPM (serious neurological disease) and just finished the first month of treatment. All of this started in May. If you know me, then you know this is my kid and anything that happens to her gets me Seriously Upset. Unsure about my job. I’ve...

Shrine to Jupiter found at Vindolanda

Found a link to the article below on Archaeological News. Amazing find! I’d love to be able to see it. To my friend on the right side of the pond — if you get to visit the site, send me a picture? hexham-courant.co.uk — ONE of the most important artefacts ever unearthed at the Vindolanda Roman site near Bardon Mill could also be the heaviest. The 1.5 tonne altar depicts Jupiter riding a...

CSS Resources

A friend of mine asked for tutorials and resources for CSS, so I complied the following list of sites. The cascading style sheet (CSS) spec (current version is 2.1) is published and maintained by the World Wide Web Consorium (W3C). The W3C also has a tutorial on CSS. W3Schools is a good site with excellent tutorials for HTML, CSS, XHTML, among others. I learned HTML/CSS there — and then had to unlearn some...
