Science Daily had an article on the remains of a Gallo-Roman winery found in Burgundy. My favourite region in France is Burgundy. I should post some of the pictures I have of the grapevine-covered hill sides. It’s amazing. It would have been The Place to do a wine tasting — if I wasn’t allergic to alcohol…
Gevrey-Chambertin, 12 km from Dijon, is famous throughout the world for its Burgundy wines. It is now possible to conclude that winegrowing in this region goes back to the Gallo-Roman era, as testified by the findings of excavations by the Institut National de Recherches Archéologiques Préventives , at the spot known as “Au dessus de Bergis.”
I received an email from Amazon.com stating that the Blood Ties DVD will be released in the U.S. on June 2, 2009. No word on what will be included on the DVD. Blood Ties fans have been waiting for almost a year and a half since the last episode aired on LifeTime’s web site.
Woohoo!
Update: According to the Save Blood Ties web site, this DVD will only include episodes 1-11 of Blood Ties. Episodes 12-22 will be released on a “Season Two” DVD at some point.
Some of my friends and I are learning Latin. It’s been a great challenge and a lot of fun, too. It’s amazing who you discover knows Latin… The programmer in the cube next to mine used to teach Latin. A friend of mine in Hillsborough has a Masters in philology. Other friends are Classics majors. My Mom learned Latin in school.
I’m always looking for learning resources. I learn very welly using songs, so imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon the Latin Declension Song posted by Rgoing of The Jduge Report! Five verses that describe the five declensions in Latin, all sung to the tune of the Martins and the Coys.
An international team of archaeologists has uncovered the earliest known evidence of horses being domesticated by humans. The discovery suggests that horses were both ridden and milked.
A friend of mine is a Finnish programmer. The man is bloody brilliant as a programmer — one of the sharpest programmers I know. It’s not surprising that Finns would have had the first truly innovated browser — even before Mosaic.
And here’s something funny. The article in the link below has a picture of the programmers. Don’t they all look like they could be cousins?
Three quiet and unknown Finnish engineers in their late thirties, Kim Nyberg, Kari Sydänmaanlakka, and Teemu Rantanen, have spent their working careers at the engineering software company Tekla in Finland.
I was about 90% better from the last cold that went around the office. I felt fine, I just had a cough that sounded bad. Even that had diminished and was almost gone. And then I caught flavor two of the creeping crud that permeates my office.
People have been out with crud off and on since before Christmas (for some, it’s been as long as Thanksgiving). Every five to ten minutes, I can hear three to four people cough. I don’t know what is going around, but the antibiotics my coworkers have been prescribed haven’t touched this creeping crud. Several of them have been told to just wait it out and that there isn’t much that can be done to help.
Nope, I haven’t been to the doctor precisely because of what my coworkers have been told. I’ve been letting the cold fade — which it was, until Friday, when I caught flavor two. Now I’m back to coughing, stuffy nose, drippage, and all that fun stuff.
Several of us have suggested that everyone should work from home for a week or so to let the creeping crud pass over. A kind of voluntary quaranteen. I think it’s a great idea.
What would happen if Facebook were done live? Would you really poke your friends? The comedy sketch team of Idiots of Ants asks this question in a hysterical sketch.
If you have ever used Facebook, you’ll get this. If you haven’t, have someone explain it to you.
