Hope for Blood Ties?

February 26th, 2008, posted in BloodTies

If you’ve been watching and waiting for an announcement of a new season of Blood Ties, you aren’t alone. Hundreds of fans all over the world are waiting for this show to be renewed. Just do a search for Blood Ties and you’ll find plenty of entries in your favorite search engine.

E!Online has a recent rumour column that has BT fans enthuseds :

Angelina in Washington, D.C.: Any new news or rumblings from the powers that be on the status of Blood Ties?!
I’m told producers remain “cautiously optimistic” and are hoping to have news for all y’all by March—which would still allow for new episodes by fall ‘08.

Maybe this is good news? There has been so much negative speculation. It’s hard to say.

Full Eclipse Tonight!

February 20th, 2008, posted in General

There is a full Eclipse tonight. I’m taking pictures when we go out and uploading them. If the cloud cover stays minimal, we’re supposed to have a great view. Very mild outside too.

First picture at approximate 9:10 PM. Taken with a Fujifilm FinePix S9100, shutter speed 1/13, F4.9 (Yup, auto mode.)

The entire family piled outside. My stepmom, sister, and I spent the better part of an hour huddled in chairs taking pictures of the eclipse. My stepbrother came out briefly and took pictures too. I have pictures of all of us outside. My name would be mud if I posted those here.

Picture at 10:39 PM. We were fighting clouds during half of the evening. While this isn’t the clearest picture, I liked the effect of the slight motion blur from my heart beat… This was taken using the Night Shot feature of my camera — and a 4 *second* delay in the shutter.

Eclipse at 10:39 PM

The next picture was from 11:00 when the moon was in full eclipse. Amazing. It really looked red. (In fact some of my bad shots from tonight look like a picture of Mars taken through a low-magnification telescope.)

11:00 PM

This last picture was taken at 11:20 using a small tripod on the back porch railing. I changed the aperture mode to shutter priority. It helped a little. If I had my real tripod, I could have gotten some great shots… However, it’s packed.

11:20 PM

What I should have done was use the camera in full manual mode and focused on getting the exposure settings correct. BUT when you have to take pictures fast, you don’t always have time (or the available light source to see the buttons).

I have quite a few other pictures, but it’s a little late to process them tonight. I’ll post them tomorrow.

Crazy Articles Today

February 20th, 2008, posted in Tech

Quick post during lunch… There were some crazy posts on Slash Dot and Gizmodo today:

So any of that stuff sound like science fiction?

Eep. In Color.

February 19th, 2008, posted in General

So… I have a hair appointment tonight. I’m actually getting my hair dyed (matching my current color) to cover some of the grey. Maybe it’s because I have more grey hair than my Mom does? Right now, when I pull my hair back from my face, most of it is grey at the temples. Two solid silver streaks.

I have an appointment with Jenny. Last weekend, my stepmom had her hair done (and dyed) by a lady who has done it several times before. My stepmom’s hair was a really nasty shade of bronzy-blond-red. And that was after the stylist had “fixed” it three times. Sammie ended up going to Stephanie’s friend Jenny, who did a great job with the dye and styling. I think Jenny would be trustworthy for doing this.

I’ve never had my hair dyed before. Nervous.

Visit with the Love Lobster

February 15th, 2008, posted in Just Silly

Ever add new things to your office or cube just to see if people would notice? Or might be brave enough to say something? I do that some times—especially when I’m trying to get to know people. It’s a great way to meet people. And if they think I’m a little weird, well I am. Hm… Maybe I should say eccentric?

Since I started my new job in January, I’ve been adding things to my cubicle: one new item every few weeks. Nothing major. Just enough to start a conversation. Or so I thought. My first item was a 8″ tall stuffed horse that sits on the corner of my monitor.

Monitor and horse

(Yes I love the dual monitors. Love them love them love them!)

No one commented on the horse. Not one person. People commented on the background picture of the street in Paris, but nothing else. Tough lot.

Okay, one horse obviously wasn’t enough. I created a collage of pictures of my mare, Isis, and posted it on my peg board to the right of my monitors. It’s two letter-size, landscape pages. One full page shot of Isis and a second page with different pictures, including two of Isis and I jumping.

One or two asked if that was me jumping. They were shocked that it was. (People are always surprised when they see pictures of things you’ve told them you do, as if only then it’s real.) That was it, though. No other comments.

It was going to take something drastic.

The week before Valentine’s Day, my sister and I were at the grocery store. She started laughing and called me over to the Valentine’s Day display of flowers and various stuffed animals (most of them obnoxiously cute). Except for the thing she pointed out to me: a giant red lobster with over-stuffed eyelides, eyes, antennas and lips with a bright red hearth-shaped tag with the words “Love Lobster.” I couldn’t stop laughing at the three-foot tall critter. It was so hideous it was cute.

It had to come to Cubeville.

My sister works as a part-time receptionist at my company. She saw me pick the lobster up and the evil grin. She knew immediately what I was plotting.

“Oh no you don’t! If you bring that in, you’re driving separately!”

Of course that just egged me on even more. I plunked down my $30 for the thing and brought it home.

Next day at work, I snuck the Love Lobster in to my cube. No one made any comments about the giant red plush tucked under my arm when I walked in. I just nonchalantly strolled to my desk and sat it up in the corner.

And a closeup:

Initially some people only slowed down near my desk, glanced in, and hurried past. But then things got fun.

More on that in another post.

Another house showing…

February 9th, 2008, posted in General

The house is being shown this Saturday at noon. Which I is good news. The house has never had this much interest. Pretty amazing. I wonder if my real estate agent ran an ad?

It’s kinda frustrating when you don’t know what work you should do and what you should not. I know what I would like to do, but then there is the question of what is cost-effective and what is not? Whoever buys it might not like what I did and might want to completely redo everything…

Ah well. At least it’s getting some exposure.

Feedback on House

February 8th, 2008, posted in General

Here is the feedback my real estate agent just gave me for the people who viewed the house:

The people who saw the house last night didn’t understand the floor plan. (Yeah she was kinda scratching her head over that one too.)

The people who saw the house on the 5th said that every room needs finishing touches and is lacking completion. They also thought the price was too high.

The people who saw it on the fourth want to be further out insead of that close in to the city.

The people who saw the house over the weekend could not get financing. They are considering making an offer on another house.

My real estate agent also reiterated the request for putting a chandelier in the office to make it look more like a dining room. She also suggested making sure there was some shelving or a closet-type unit in the 2nd bedroom closet. She did offer to meet an electrician at the house to install a chandelier.

I guess it’s not bad. No one has made any comments on the second bedroom after all of the work my sister, my friends, and I did. Sigh. Feeling a little frustrated over everything.

More good house news

I got another email from my real estate agent. The house is being shown again today. Cool beans! This is amazing. I don’t think there has ever been this much traffic on the house.

Back to work. Had to share. :)

Kitty Welfare in Scotland

February 7th, 2008, posted in Cats

The Register today has an article called “Scottish government drafts cat welfare code,” which details a Scottish government document describing basic cat care and cat welfare. From the article:

The Scottish government has tackled the thorny issue of cat welfare by issuing a Draft Cat Welfare Code of Practice aimed at providing “basic information and guidance to those responsible for cats on how to care for them”.

This exhaustive document contains essential info for those Scots who aren’t feline-savvy, such as the revelations that “different cats will have different needs”, inquisitive moggies may end up in tumble dryers and that nine lives won’t save your pet from if it falls from your sixth-floor balcony.

The actual document is on the Scottish government Web site: Consultation on the Draft Cat Welfare Code of Practice: A Consultation Document issued by the Rural Directorate of the Scottish Government

Wouldn’t it be interesting if we had the same care programs here for our own animals?

And yet another house showing today! Woohoo! My real estate agent also said that the house was shown over the weekend, so that is three showings this weekend. Awesome!

Bouncy bouncy!

Now if it will just sell…
