Belly Dance Class!

So tonight was my first class. We reviewed the basic steps that are used in the routine we’ll be performing. We also did some advanced work — including working with a veil, which was also a blast. I was able to stay for the begininer and part of the advanced class afterwards. It was a lot of fun. My friend is a good instructor and took time with each person to help them...

Dancing Discussion

When I was little, I had four things I wanted to be when I grew up: A professional dancer, An archaeologist, A writer, or A parapsychologist. (Note: Professional rider is not on the list. I like to enjoy my horses and didn’t want them to become a chore.) which one, I wasn’t sure, but they all sounded like fun. I took dance lessons from elementary school through high school. Dancing fell to the...

Belly Dance

An Internet friend of mine out in Utah has a scary knack of getting into the same activities I do. We were chatting on Friday evening and she mentioned that she was interested in belly dance. Just so happens a local friend of mine has been teaching belly dance for a year or more. We both decided that we want to take classes as an impetus to help us get in shape (and...

Visit to Rome

Well not for me (I wish!), but for my coauthor. This week he is in Rome for an EpiDoc conference. With any luck, he will return with photos of some of the find spots of some of the artifacts in our list. If he’s lucky, maybe he will even have time to visit the museum with the Equites singulares inscriptions (assuming they are on display). It’s a funny thing, thinking about being in...

Farrier today

The farrier came out today for Isis and Rajiyyah. The spots on Isis’ front feet are definitely looking better. Her feet are getting better and the funky fungal thing she had appears to be mostly gone. There is still a little of it in her front right hoof. I’m continuing the treatment and hopefully that will resolve everything. Rajiyyah’s feet look great. The Bay Wonder Mare has been looking a little better. She...

Riding again

The last time I really rode consistently was Isis’ show back in July. I rode Rajiyyah today and really felt slippery in the saddle (didn’t help I was wearing linen pants). Boy do I need to get my legs back in shape! Any way… She was good today. Full of energy and excitement, but overall she paid attention and seemed to have fun. This was the first time I had ridden her since...

Shivery

The barn owners called me last night. Apparently Rajiyyah was shivering last night from the cold. Poor kid. She is not used to the weather in Tennessee yet. I’m heading out now to try a blanket on her and buy her a new one if she needs it. Related Images:

Photo of Isis

I was going through my pictures of Isis and I finally found the one of her running. I only wish this one had focused better. Oh well. It was taken with a Kalimar 35mm film camera with a 80-200mm telephoto lens. Related Images:

Doctor Who on SciFi Channel

I can’t believe I missed it tonight! My favorite show and I got caught up playing Oblivion. Time passes when you’re having fun? I did watch last week’s episode, ‘New Earth.’ I was surprised that several scenes had been clipped to insert commercials. It was pretty annoying to see how much was missing. Nothing you’d notice unless you had scenes the version of the ones released in the U.K. (available periodically on YouTube)....

Doctor Who Season Two!

Yes, you guessed it. I’m a Who fan. Fan conventions with actors who have played the Doctor’s previous incarnations? You bet. Even have autographed posters. Yup, even started knitting the scarf. Doctor Who is an acquired taste. You have to like quirky, campy British humour to appreciate Doctor Who. The second season is finally airing in the US on the Sci Fi channel. The Christmas Invasion and the first episode of the second...

Tao of Equus

I’ve started reading a new book by Linda Kohanov called The Tao of Equus (see Web site). The author relates her own spiritual journey through her relationship with her horses. It’s a very mystical/shamanistic journey that she goes through. She uses her own experience and her professional training as a psychotherapist to combine the experiences into a therapy program, which she calls “The Epona Method.” I’m not very far into the book (first...

Web site graph

This is a really cool tool that creates a graph of a Web site. The pictures are based upon HTML pages and tags used. Pretty neat. It’s a Java applet, so it can take some time. Web Sites As Graphs Related Images:

Roof fixed!

The roofers came back out on Saturday and have hopefully fixed the roof. It rained like mad on Saturday night and so far no drippings inside the house. There is just something so depressing about buying a house, having it inspected and getting a gold star — and within three months having a large limb from a neighbors tree fall in the front yard, two roof leaks, water damage in the floor, discovering...
